Tucson, AZ – Extreme Heat Warnings will remain in effect for much of southern Arizona through Friday, marking the last stretch of a record-breaking hot week before temperatures finally begin to ease.
Slight Cooling Trend Expected
Forecasters say Friday will still be hot, but high temperatures are expected to stay below 110°F for most areas. The slight cooling will continue through the weekend, with highs hovering near 105°F.
According to the National Weather Service, this trend offers a welcome break after days of oppressive, triple-digit heat that had residents and officials on high alert.
Moisture Brings Rain Chances
A shift in weather patterns is also expected to bring a little more moisture to the region. This could increase rain chances for parts of southern Arizona, especially heading into Saturday and Sunday.
The best chance of rainfall will be south of Tucson, but the metro area could still see spot showers. By Sunday afternoon and evening, the likelihood of rain will increase for the city and surrounding areas.
Heat Safety Remains Important
Even with a slight dip in temperatures, health experts caution that heat-related illnesses are still a concern. Staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable neighbors remain important safety steps.
How to Keep Yourself Safe in Extreme Heat
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Limit outdoor exposure during the hottest part of the afternoon.
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Never leave children or pets in vehicles, even briefly.
