Son Who Killed His Father in 2007 Arrested Again for Allegedly Strangling His Mother Months After Prison Release, Police Say

Nashua, NH – A New Hampshire man once convicted of stabbing his father more than 20 times, fatally penetrating his brain, is back in custody after police say he assaulted and strangled his mother only months after being released early from prison.

Ian Delmore, 40, has been charged with assault – domestic violence – strangulation and domestic violence – simple assault following an investigation by Nashua authorities. According to local reports, Delmore’s mother called police and told officers she feared for her life after being assaulted inside her home.

Police Say Mother Reported Assault and Feared for Her Life

Responding officers spoke with Delmore’s mother before taking him into custody. Investigators later gathered evidence that supported the domestic violence charges now filed against him. Officials have not released full details about the injuries involved, but emphasized that the allegations involved strangulation, which New Hampshire law treats as a severe form of domestic assault.

A Violent Past: Delmore’s 2007 Murder Case

Delmore’s latest arrest has resurfaced attention to his past, especially the 2007 killing of his father. At the time, he plunged a butcher knife into his father’s head, face, and back more than 20 times, ultimately penetrating the brain. The attack erupted after an argument in the family home over a plumbing project, according to the Associated Press.

During the fatal stabbing, prosecutors said Delmore blamed his father, reportedly saying, “You brought this on yourself” and “You drove me to it… It’s all your fault.”

After the attack, he stabbed himself in the chest and abdomen before fleeing to a neighbor’s home. Police later found him hiding in the woods, covered in blood.

His Mother Once Spoke Publicly About the Case

Local ABC affiliate WMUR previously interviewed Delmore’s mother after the 2007 killing. At that time, she expressed sorrow but also compassion, saying:

“I would like to commend the Nashua Police Department for their care and their professionalism, and I would like to tell my son that I love him very much.”

Delmore pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2008 at age 22. He originally planned a self-defense argument that would include his mental health history and claims of past abuse but later accepted a plea deal.

Sentenced to 25 Years, Released Early

During his sentencing, Delmore apologized in court, stating:

“I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to my family, and my mother, for the pain and the loss that I have caused through my actions, and I am very sorry for what happened.”

He was ordered to serve 25 years in prison but was released early in May, according to reports. Authorities have not clarified the reasons for his early release.

New Charges Raise Concerns in the Community

The new accusations have raised questions about Delmore’s supervision following his release and whether any support systems were in place. Domestic violence advocates stress that individuals with previous violent histories often require long-term monitoring and intervention.

Police say Delmore is currently being held without bail as he awaits his next court appearance.
