The man from Texas who shoved his father’s body into a refrigerator and then chained it shut has entered a guilty plea and is going to be sentenced to prison.
According to the documents filed with the court, David Michael Gibson, who is 49 years old, offered a guilty plea to the charge of tampering with evidence with the goal to impair a human corpse. Wednesday was the day that a judge handed down his sentence of ten years in prison. When authorities were doing a welfare check, they discovered the remains of Daniel Gibson, Gibson’s father, which was “badly decomposed” and found in the refrigerator that was housed in the garage. An autopsy would not be able to ascertain the cause of death or the manner in which the individual passed away.
This is according to a courtroom report, which stated that the Gibson family criticized the offender during the sentencing process.
“To disrespect him by placing him in a freezer and not telling anybody — you have no family anymore, you are on your own,” said Matthew Gibson, the suspect’s brother and the son of the victim. “You have no family anymore.”
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that deputies responded to a home in the 7500 block of Rustic Trail on August 8, 2024, and began talking to a man who identified himself as the person they were looking for. This information was previously reported.
According to Salazar, “However, the deputy had the impression that it was not him.” “Later on in the day, he was able to get in touch with some family members who said, ‘That voice on that Ring is not our father.'”
When deputies entered the house where David Gibson was discovered, the family assisted them in doing so. In the course of their investigation, the deputies discovered a refrigerator in the garage that “appeared suspicious in nature,” according to Salazar. Salazar stated that it appeared to be chained shut for the most part. According to Salazar, deputies entered the refrigerator and discovered human remains inside.
After speaking with members of the household, I learned that they immediately saw a human head when they opened the door of the refrigerator and then slammed it shut. For the sake of establishing a crime scene, the deputies ordered everyone to leave the house.
According to Salazar, the family reported to the police that they had not seen or heard from the victim in several months, and there were some “indicators” that David Gibson had been living with the remains for a considerable amount of time. According to the allegations, Gibson was cashing payments belonging to his father’s Social Security and military pension. It also appears that the victim had not replenished his prescriptions for a considerable amount of time.
Before Gibson can be considered for parole, he will be required to spend a minimum of five years during the entirety of his sentence.
