Amarillo, TX – A series of severe thunderstorms ripped through the Texas Panhandle late Sunday into early Monday, leaving behind a trail of hail damage, localized flooding, and power outages. Officials are now asking residents across the region to report the extent of the storm’s impact.
Hail, Wind, and Flooding Hit Multiple Cities
The National Weather Service in Amarillo confirmed that several intense storm cells moved across Stratford, Dumas, and areas north of Amarillo, bringing with them hail, strong winds, and heavy rain that led to ponding and even washed-out roads in some areas.
“We’re especially interested in reports involving hail of any size, damage to trees or power lines, and flooded roadways,” the agency said in a Monday morning advisory.
Residents who experienced storm damage are urged to document their observations using common household items (like coins or rulers) to measure hail size and to share photos and exact locations before beginning any cleanup.
Communities Affected Include Guymon, Dalhart, and Perryton
Storms also swept through Guymon, Dalhart, and Perryton, leading to temporary road closures and power flickers in parts of those communities. While no major injuries have been reported, emergency services are cautioning the public to stay alert and avoid flooded areas or downed power lines.
Crews are actively clearing debris, inspecting damage, and restoring utilities in hard-hit zones.
Residents Asked to Report Damage
The NWS has requested that all weather-related damage be reported through their official storm survey channels or social media platforms. Residents should include:
- Exact location
- Time of event
- Type of damage
- Photos (if safe to capture)
Such reports will help meteorologists refine their assessments of the storm’s intensity and prepare for possible repeat events.
More Storms Possible Through Tuesday
Weather forecasters warn that the threat isn’t over. Additional thunderstorms are possible through Tuesday morning, and future severe weather advisories may be issued in the coming hours.
Residents are strongly advised to:
- Keep phones charged
- Follow local emergency alerts
- Avoid traveling during heavy rainfall
- Stay indoors during lightning or high winds
