Scorching Summer Heat to Grip Pennsylvania Thursday, July 24—Temps Near 95°F and Storm Risk Ahead

On Thursday, July 24th, Pennsylvania will get a lot of summer heat. In Philadelphia, highs will reach 89°F, and by Friday, they will be even hotter. As the weekend comes, people in the region should get ready for a wave of sunshine, rising humidity, and a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service says that Thursday will be a sunny, hot day in the city, with winds from the south making it even warmer. By Friday, it will be 95°F, which is very hot. This is making people worried about heat stress, especially along I-76 and other big city roads. By Friday night, there is a higher chance of storms. Showers and thunderstorms may make it hard to spend the evening or get to work on time.

People in Philadelphia and the counties around it should stay inside during the hottest parts of the day, drink plenty of water, and check on friends who might be at risk. PennDOT warns drivers to stay alert for quick rain and possible ponding on the roads, especially by Friday night. If it starts to storm, stay inside and stay away from flooded streets.

Even though it will be a little cooler on Saturday, there is a 50% chance of more showers and storms after 2 p.m. Risks of storms will last into Sunday and Monday, so this is a weekend to keep an eye on the weather and be flexible with plans to be outside.

Thunderstorms can bring heavy rain and short gusts of wind to some areas, so make sure your devices are charged and keep an eye on signals. By Tuesday, July 29th, the weather should be drier and warmer again.
