This state has the “most devoted dog owners,” but there are still a huge number of pets that are stuck in shelters. Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary’s goal is to save older dogs that would have a hard time finding new homes and give them high-quality, comfy care until the end of their lives.

Pepper was a dog I took in and saved a few years ago. I chose to help an older dog during a very hard time in my life because I wanted to give back, and he ended up saving me. It made sense to me to help older dogs. “Wow,” said Mary Leprino, one of the people who helped start Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary.

The multimillion-dollar building has a vet clinic, comfortable couches for sleeping, and play places for older dogs and dogs with health problems. Leprino is committed to giving the dogs she takes in the best care possible at the end of their lives.

“From the minute they wake up until they go to bed at night, they are cared for perfectly,” he said.

It costs a lot for Pepper’s to offer such high-end care. Leprino said that the refuge is taking in 20 older dogs from shelters all over the state right now.

“We only take dogs from shelters because we want every dog to have a chance to be adopted. By the time they get to us, they haven’t had a chance to be adopted.” It’s because they’ve been on the adoption floor or because of health or behavior issues, they can’t be adopted. That’s why we take those dogs. Leprino told Kelly Werthmann of CBS News Colorado, “They come and stay with us until they lovingly pass with us.”

Raise the Ruff is an event that helps Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary raise money. This year, rock star Rick Springfield will perform a benefit show at the Mission Ballroom on Thursday, August 29th. They want to get $1,500 in ticket sales and $500,000. Springfield is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who has won a Grammy and sold 25 million records.
