Republicans Launch Major Ad Campaign in North Carolina Targeting Democrat Josh Stein on Immigration

The Republican Governors Association said it will start a seven-figure ad campaign against Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein of North Carolina over illegal immigration.

Stein is running to be the next governor of North Carolina. In an interview for the ad, called “Weak,” she says, “There are no sanctuary cities in North Carolina.” After that, there is a slide that says, “Josh Stein is lying to you.”

The Republican sheriff of Davidson County then says, “Here is the truth: Several North Carolina counties are refusing to work with deportation officials.”

Following mug shots, the ad says, “All of these criminal illegal aliens were released back on the street, including a sex offender.” Stein says “I just don’t think it’s real” twice in the 30-second spot, but no other information is shared.

Then Simmons says, “Believe me, the threat is real.”

RGA said in a statement, “‘Weak’ exposes Josh Stein for lying to North Carolina families as he claims there are ‘no sanctuary cities’ in North Carolina when the reality is that counties across North Carolina are taking dangerous stands and refusing to cooperate with immigration officials.”

Stein is running against Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a Republican, to become the next governor of the state. A lot of people are running for governor, making this one of the most heated races in the country.

North Carolina doesn’t have any sanctuary towns because, in 2015, Republican Gov. Pat McCrory signed a bill into law that made them illegal. But the state doesn’t make local officials follow orders from federal immigration officials. This is something that lawmakers just recently talked about.

That newspaper tried to get Stein’s team to comment on the ad but did not hear back.
