Randolph County Schools Fires a Teacher Who Was Accused of Excessive Freedom of Speech

RANDLEMAN, N.C. — The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office charged a woman with indecent acts. She has since been fired from her job as a teacher.

A report of sexual accusations was sent to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on July 1. They then began their investigation.

Britney Marie Vernon, 39, was charged with three counts of felony sexual liberties with a student and three counts of felony sex acts with a student after an investigation.

When Vernon was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center on Wednesday, she was given a $75,000 bond.

Vernon taught health science at Randleman High School, according to Randolph County Schools. She has worked for the school district since 2018 and at RHS since August 2023. The school board says she is currently on paid suspension.
