Rain, Wind, and High Surf Expected Across Alaska as Low Pressure System Persists

Anchorage, AK – Alaska is bracing for another round of wet, windy weather this week as a low pressure system continues to influence conditions across much of the state. While some regions will see brief breaks in the clouds, others can expect heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hazardous marine conditions.

Southcentral Sees Brief Sunshine Before More Rain

According to Alaska’s News Source, a ridge building from the Alaska Peninsula will bring mostly sunny skies to Southcentral on Monday, making it one of the few regions to enjoy a short-lived break from the wet weather. However, the ridge is expected to shift, allowing cloudier and wetter conditions to return later in the week.

Southeast Faces Heavy Rain and Flooding Concerns

The jet stream continues to deliver moisture-packed systems to Southeast Alaska, particularly Juneau, where nearly two inches of rain are expected by Tuesday. This additional rainfall could worsen the glacial outburst flooding risk already present in the area. Residents are urged to stay alert for flooding updates and possible advisories.

Interior and North Slope See Showers and Storms

Across the Interior and North Slope, scattered showers and cloud cover will linger throughout the week as last week’s low pressure moves east. Most showers are expected in the afternoon hours, but isolated thunderstorms are likely Monday and Tuesday.

Western Alaska Prepares for High Surf Advisory

Western Alaska, including Nome, could see nearly half an inch of rain as the next storm system arrives from the Bering Sea. The system has prompted a High Surf Advisory from Monday through Wednesday, with wave heights increasing 1 to 3 feet and some waves topping 8 feet along the western coastline.

Aleutians Hit by Gale-Force Winds

The Aleutian Islands will face gale-force winds on Monday, with gusts reaching nearly 50 miles per hour. Continued overcast skies and showers will persist as the outer bands of the Bering Sea low pressure system sweep across the islands. Mariners are advised to exercise caution in open waters.
