SAN ANTONIO – The guy who was killed in an accident on Tuesday morning may have been hurt by the wet, muddy ground, according to San Antonio police.
Around 6 a.m., police were called to the Stratton Place Apartments in the 12400 block of Starcrest Drive to a report of an injured person. When they arrived, they saw the guy lying next to a trash can. The apartments are near Jones Maltsberger Road.
The police said it looked like he had been shot in the chest.
Police also found some trash bags and a gun that they think belonged to him on a nearby green hill.
Investigators talked to family members and friends at the complex and found that the shooting was an accident.
They told KSAT 12 News that the man got hurt when he slipped on the wet, muddy hill on his way to the dumpster to throw away his trash.
Police said he had a gun on him at the time, but it fell and went off by accident.
The man, 58 years old, died at a hospital. His name has not been made public.
Neighbors were interested in the crime scene that was roped off, but not many of them heard the explosion.
She said that her mother did say she heard a gunshot from a different part of the apartment building.
The man who was hurt was screaming, and Padilla heard them.
She showed the man where he fell on the grass and said, “I saw him over here.” “He was screaming for help, so my brother and I went outside.” We were giving him CPR.
Padilla said she had no idea what had happened but knew her friend was hurt. She found out after the fact that he had been shot.
“At that point, we saw blood on his chest, and he just stopped moving,” Padilla said.
The police said that the killing was just a freak situation.
