Philadelphia, PA – After a cooler-than-usual start to August, summer heat and sticky humidity are making a comeback across the Philadelphia region this week, along with a few chances for pop-up storms.
Heat and Humidity Build Early in the Week
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, slightly cooler near the coast. While humidity levels will be noticeable, heat index values are expected to remain just under advisory thresholds.
Wednesday will feel much the same, with temperatures again near 90 degrees. The afternoon and evening could bring a couple of scattered storms, but most locations will stay dry. The severe weather risk remains relatively low for now.
Slight Storm Chances with a Weak Cold Front
By Thursday, a weak cold front will slide into the region, bringing only a slight chance for showers or storms. Highs will hover near 90 degrees, with muggy dew points early in the day before conditions gradually improve from northwest to southeast.
Friday into the weekend, the front could either stall or break apart, offering only a slight drop in humidity. Temperatures will remain summery, with highs in the low 90s and minimal rain chances.
Tropical Storm Erin Developing in the Atlantic
Farther out in the tropics, Tropical Storm Erin has formed with sustained winds of 45 mph and is moving west at 22 mph. Current forecasts keep Erin tracking toward the Caribbean and Gulf before shifting north toward the Bahamas.
Meteorologists caution that Erin could strengthen into a major hurricane in the coming days. While no U.S. impact is expected at this time, the storm is roughly 3,000 miles from the Mid-Atlantic and will be closely monitored. Historically, storms from this region take 10 to 12 days to reach the East Coast if they shift toward the U.S.
