ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA – A 15-year-old girl has been charged as an adult after allegedly shooting her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend in the head and leaving him to die in his apartment. Fatal Shooting Inside Apartment
Police responded to an unresponsive person call on Monday around 5 p.m. at an apartment on the 100 block of Old York Road. Upon arrival, officers found Baker dead from a gunshot wound to the head in his bedroom.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Hamilton allegedly stole the gun roughly two months prior and was staying with Baker for the weekend. Baker’s mother reported leaving the two teens alone around 2:30 p.m. and returning about two hours later, discovering the apartment door unlocked and ultimately finding her son unresponsive.
Events Leading to the Shooting
A probable cause affidavit details that Hamilton had previously shown a loaded “cowboy-style” firearm to Baker and his cousin the day before. She reportedly mentioned wanting to fire the gun out of the 11th-story window, but Baker persuaded her not to. Hamilton “dry-fired” the gun while it was unloaded, according to investigators, and images and videos of her holding the weapon were later recovered from Baker’s iPad.
On the day of the incident, Hamilton allegedly grabbed the gun from under the bed while she and Baker were “playing around.” She told detectives she was surprised when the revolver discharged, striking Baker and causing him to fall off the bed. Instead of seeking help, Hamilton left the apartment and called her mother to pick her up, according to police.
