Pennsylvania Mother Charged with Manslaughter After 3-Year-Old Found Dead in Vehicle in Maine

Milford, ME – Authorities say a Pennsylvania woman has been charged with manslaughter after her 3-year-old daughter was discovered dead inside a vehicle in Milford, Maine.

Child Found in Vehicle Outside Local Business

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a local business on the evening of August 9. Upon arrival, officers found the body of the young girl inside a vehicle.

The vehicle’s owner, identified as Kelly Brown, 40, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, was located nearby and detained by police.

Prior Welfare Check Request

Authorities confirmed that both Brown and her daughter had been subjects of an earlier welfare check request from concerned family members. Moss said this prompted law enforcement agencies to attempt to locate them before the tragic discovery.

Manslaughter Charge and Ongoing Investigation

The following morning, Brown was charged with manslaughter and booked into the Penobscot County Jail. The child’s body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, where an autopsy will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Moss added that this is being treated as an isolated incident with no ongoing public safety concerns, noting that “more information will be released as it becomes available.”
