Milford, ME – A 40-year-old woman from Havertown, Pennsylvania, has been charged with manslaughter after authorities discovered her 3-year-old daughter dead inside a vehicle outside a business in Milford, Maine, on Saturday.
Mother Arrested After Child’s Body Found
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Kelly Brown, of Delaware County, was taken into custody after deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive child in a parked vehicle. Authorities said the tragic discovery was made outside a local business, and Brown was located nearby before being detained.
The PCSO confirmed that Brown and her daughter had been the subjects of a wellness check earlier that day. Maine State Police investigators have joined the sheriff’s office in the ongoing investigation.
Autopsy to Determine Cause of Death
The 3-year-old’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death. Officials have not released further details regarding the child’s condition at the time of discovery.
Pending Court Appearance
Brown was booked into the Penobscot County Jail and is awaiting an initial court appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center. The PCSO said the case remains active and additional charges could be considered as the investigation progresses.
Community Shocked by Tragic Case
The case has left both Pennsylvania and Maine communities shocked. Neighbors in Havertown expressed disbelief, saying the incident was “heartbreaking and unimaginable.” Authorities are urging anyone with information about Brown’s recent activities or travel to come forward.
