Dayton, Ohio – A woman accused of helping abduct a 12-year-old boy and assaulting him with bleach has been released from custody after accepting a plea deal that significantly reduced her charges.
Authorities said the case dates back to February, when 33-year-old Reka Jarmon and 38-year-old DeMarcus Pleasure forcibly took Pleasure’s nephew from a Dayton home before transporting him to another location and pouring bleach on his face. The assault caused injuries to the child’s eyes and face, though officials confirmed he has since recovered.
What Investigators Say Happened
According to earlier reports, the incident occurred on February 22, when Jarmon and Pleasure went to the residence where the boy lived and forced him into a vehicle. The pair then drove him to a second site where bleach was poured onto his face, leading to painful injuries and an emergency response.
Court records note that the boy suffered temporary damage to his eyes and skin, though medical teams indicated the injuries healed over time.
Dayton police previously indicated the boy may have been suspected of sexual assault, but this information was not verified and was never formally confirmed in court documents.
The Plea Deals and Sentencing
Pleasure pleaded guilty on November 7 to abduction. During his sentencing, he told the court, “I made a mistake,” adding that he did not think forcing a family member into a car would legally constitute kidnapping. He also stated, “I lived with this little boy. I raised him as my own.”
His plea resulted in a three-year prison sentence, with kidnapping and assault charges dismissed.
Jarmon’s outcome was more lenient. On December 5, she pleaded guilty to trespassing in a habitation and child endangerment. In return, prosecutors dropped charges of kidnapping, assault, and abduction. A judge credited her for time already served, allowing her to walk free immediately after sentencing.
Community Reaction and Legal Context
The case attracted significant local attention due to the disturbing details of the bleach assault and the involvement of a family member. Legal analysts note that plea negotiations often reflect the strength of available evidence and each defendant’s individual role in the incident.
Child endangerment and abduction cases in Ohio can carry severe penalties, particularly when physical harm occurs, but plea agreements remain common as courts balance evidence, cooperation, and case complexity.
The Child’s Recovery
Officials confirmed that the 12-year-old has physically recovered from his injuries. No additional details were released regarding long-term emotional impact or ongoing support, as authorities typically protect the privacy of juvenile victims.
What Happens Next
While Pleasure will serve his sentence in state prison, Jarmon will be under standard post-sentencing requirements associated with her convictions. The case is closed, with no further charges pending.
