Ohio State Police Respond to Incident Involving Pepper Spray on Michigan Football Players

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State lost to Michigan 13–10, and after the game, the Wolverines ran over to where their band, families, and cheer team were. They came out with the Block M flag after a short time and went to the middle to plant it for the second time in three years in The Shoe.

But the Ohio State players wouldn’t have it, so they rushed the Michigan players who were standing still. Several fights broke out, and the number of police officers increased. We were on the field, though, and saw how aggressive the police were. They pepper-sprayed players from both teams as well as close reporters, and they even pushed Michigan players who were far away from the fight.

The Ohio State Police said in a statement that they are going to look into it.

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore talked about what happened right away after the game, saying that he wished his players hadn’t brought the flag to the middle.

“People on both sides were upset,” Moore said. “I didn’t see that our guys had the flag; they were waving it around, and their guys charged us.” That’s why both sides were upset. It’s not possible. Games of rivalry get heated, and this one is no different. We need to do a better job with that one because it’s the biggest in the country.
