Ohio Braces for Intense Heat and Thunderstorms on Tuesday, July 29

By midday Tuesday, July 29, dangerous heat and sporadic storms are expected to affect central Ohio, warning people of flash flooding and high humidity.

By early afternoon, heat index readings in Columbus, Delaware, and Pickaway counties may reach 100°F, according to the Wilmington National Weather Service. After that, there is a probability of thunderstorms, and between 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, there will probably be heavy rain locally. During the evening commute, these storms may overwhelm drainage systems and impair visibility on major highways such as I-70, I-71, and U.S. 33.

Even though Tuesday morning can start off sunny, the weather will become bad by the middle of the afternoon. Before a storm, residents should secure outside belongings, restrict outdoor activities, and remain hydrated. Precipitation is 30% more likely on Tuesday and 50% more likely on Wednesday.

Through Wednesday, there will be heat and humidity, and after 11 a.m., more storms are predicted. Wind gusts of up to 20 mph are possible. Rainfall totals of more than half an inch may fall in certain places.

With more comfortable highs in the low 80s, cooler, drier air finally makes its way into the weekend on Thursday night.
