North Louisiana September Weather: Heat Builds to Mid-90s with Storm Chances Through the Weekend

Shreveport, LA – Rising fall heat and storm chances are making for unpredictable weather across north Louisiana this week, with commutes on I-20 potentially becoming slick and challenging for drivers.

Storms and Rising Heat in Shreveport

Shreveport drivers should stay alert for sudden downpours and low visibility as afternoon thunderstorms mix with increasing heat. According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20% chance of thunderstorms in the area between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with temperatures pushing close to 91 degrees.

“Winds will shift north at 5 mph, but showers could make travel conditions unpredictable,” the weather service warned.

Hotter Conditions Ahead

The heat will intensify as the week progresses, with Thursday reaching 94 degrees under full sunshine. Friday could see 96-degree highs in the area, prompting emergency managers to recommend limiting outdoor work during peak heat and drinking plenty of water to avoid heat stress.

“Stay hydrated and take regular breaks in the shade,” emergency officials advised.

Morning Fog and Rural Road Hazards

In addition to the heat, Caddo and Bossier parishes will face patchy morning fog through midweek, which will reduce visibility for early drivers. School traffic may also be impacted, and rural roads could remain damp from previous storms.

Stormy Weekend Ahead

By Saturday, another round of afternoon storms could bring scattered showers and lightning, potentially complicating outdoor plans. As lightning strikes are expected, utility crews are on high alert for possible power outages, though widespread disruptions are not anticipated.

Precautions are advised, such as charging devices in advance and avoiding non-essential travel during storms.

The Weekend Outlook and Long-Term Forecast

This week’s mix of hot afternoons and storm chances will keep the weather unsettled through the weekend. The potential for stronger storms may lead to weather warnings as the situation develops.
