Richmond County, NC. – A 23-year-old North Carolina man has been charged after allegedly firing a shotgun at an Amazon delivery driver who mistakenly pulled into his driveway late at night with her teenage son inside the car, according to police.
Authorities say Sidney Pittman is facing multiple felony charges following the Dec. 14 incident, which unfolded in Richmond County at approximately 9:30 p.m.
What police say happened
According to an arrest warrant reviewed by investigators, Pittman allegedly fired a shotgun at a vehicle being driven by Tashika Trimble, a seasonal delivery driver working for Amazon.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Trimble had pulled into Pittman’s driveway after her GPS directed her to the wrong address. Her 16-year-old son was riding with her at the time.
Deputies say Pittman came to the door and told Trimble she had the wrong address. She then backed out of the driveway and began to leave. As she drove away, Pittman allegedly fired a shotgun at her car.
Driver recounts the moments before the shot
At a rally attended by local civil rights advocates, Trimble publicly described the encounter in remarks reported by the Richmond Observer.
She said GPS navigation led her into the driveway and that her son noticed people inside the home and advised her not to exit the vehicle.
“GPS directed me to an address and we turned into the driveway,” Trimble said.
She explained that after confirming she had the wrong location, she returned to her vehicle and prepared to leave.
“I put my car in drive… just about to move a little, we hear a shot,” she said. “I hear little pricks hitting the car. I didn’t know where it was coming from.”
Trimble said she briefly reached for her own legally owned firearm but stopped after her son urged her to drive away.
“My son was like, ‘Mama, no. Just go.’ So, I left,” she said.
Despite the scare, Trimble said she later completed the delivery.
Law enforcement response and arrest
After the alleged shooting, Trimble contacted authorities. Deputies responded to Pittman’s residence the following day, Dec. 15, and questioned him about the incident.
While at the home, deputies located and seized a shotgun believed to have been used during the shooting. Pittman was taken into custody and charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property and injury to personal property.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail and later released after posting $200,000 bond, according to jail records.
Investigation into social media posts
The sheriff’s office confirmed that investigators are also reviewing alleged racist comments Pittman is accused of making on social media after the shooting. Officials emphasized that those posts have not yet been verified, and no additional charges related to hate speech have been announced at this time.
Authorities said the investigation remains active.
Court date and next steps
Pittman is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8, 2026, where a judge is expected to review the charges and determine how the case will proceed.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but law enforcement officials noted that firing a weapon at an occupied vehicle carries serious felony consequences under North Carolina law.
Broader safety concerns for delivery drivers
The incident has renewed attention on the risks faced by delivery drivers, particularly those working at night and relying on GPS navigation. Advocates say accidental driveway turn-ins have become more common with the rise of app-based deliveries, increasing the potential for dangerous misunderstandings.
Law enforcement officials urge residents to verify situations before reacting and remind the public that using a firearm against a vehicle or person can have irreversible consequences.
Conclusion
What began as a routine delivery ended in a frightening encounter that could have turned deadly. As the case moves through the court system, investigators continue to examine both the shooting and related online activity tied to the suspect.
