An announcement was made on Wednesday by the administration of Governor Gavin Newsom on a new order that would mandate that state employees be present in the workplace for a minimum of two days per week.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increased demand for remote and hybrid work methods to prioritize public health and safety.
By a letter issued by the governor’s office, agencies have been instructed to routinely update their policies regarding remote work by the requirements of individuals and operations.
As a result of this dynamic, the report stated that there have been “inconsistencies” and “confusion” among the various state entities. Soon, it will be essential for all organizations to operate following a single policy, which will mandate that they meet in person on two days every week.
The new policy will go into effect on June 17, but it will not apply to state entities that have previously established a policy that is consistent with remote employment.
Following the administration’s policy, requests from staff members for more than three days of working from home will be evaluated on an individual basis.
