New York City, NY: Police say a 39-year-old man from Paterson who was carrying two loaded guns sent videos of himself threatening a mass shooting at a New York City airport to his divorced wife on Tuesday.
One video reportedly shows Darnell King saying, “I’m going to wait for the plane to leave, and then I’m going to start shooting up the airport.” “You and everyone else will always remember this day in history.”
A later video reportedly shows King standing outside his car at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where his ex-wife’s international flight had just landed.
According to the reports, King said, “I don’t know what makes you think that I was lying; I am here.”
Authorities arrested King on April 30 and charged him with several crimes, such as gun possession, making terroristic threats, and having a gun “in a sensitive location.”
As part of the announcement, the Queens DA made public what they said were reportedly King’s words in the videos.
According to Queens DA Melinda Katz, the arrest of this person who drove to JFK Airport with two loaded handguns and feared a mass casualty event saved a lot of lives.
Authorities say that King’s ex-wife was in JFK’s Terminal 5 at 8:27 a.m. when she got the first text and video from him. Police say he told them he was driving to meet her and that they could see a gun on the passenger seat.
DA’s office said that at 9:29 a.m., the victim got another text and video from King. This time, it showed him at the airport.
The police finally caught King at 11:50 a.m. at the Resorts World Casino in South Ozone Park, which is close to JFK.
From what the DA said, it wasn’t clear what happened between King’s last video to his ex-wife and his arrest at the casino.
As a team effort, the New York cops Department and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey cops made the arrest.
