In the 13th century, the Montségur fortress was a refuge for the Cathars, a religious group persecuted by the Catholic Church for their different beliefs. In 1243, 10,000 soldiers besieged the castle for 10 months and a year later the Cathars gave up. However, some of them refused to renounce their faith and, as a consequence, they were burned alive. This is what makes the Montségur fortress a tragic place.

Mysterious legend

This story happened in real life, but every cursed place has a mysterious legend. In this case, it is said that 4 Cathars could escape before the final attack and they took a sacred treasure with them.
