Nebraska Woman Sentenced to 6–8 Years for LSD-Fueled Shooting of Boyfriend

Omaha, NE – A Nebraska woman has been sentenced to six to eight years in prison for the fatal shooting of her boyfriend in December 2023. Alyssa K. Roman, 31, pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the slaying of 33-year-old Alan Critser, according to court records.

Sentence and Plea Agreement

Douglas County District Judge Katie Benson handed down the sentence on Wednesday after prosecutors downgraded the original murder charge to manslaughter as part of a plea deal. Roman was given credit for 629 days served, and the maximum sentence for manslaughter in Nebraska is 20 years.

Shooting Incident Details

Roman admitted to shooting Critser in the upper torso and neck with a shotgun on December 29, 2023, after taking LSD earlier that day. Court documents describe her as showing “signs of excited delirium” when officers arrived.

Authorities were initially called to the couple’s residence after reports of a “home invasion” at another nearby house, where Roman allegedly tried to enter. She was described as “a white female with pink hair wearing only a shirt and no pants” at the time. Roman later returned to her home, where Critser’s body was found.

Crime Scene Observations

Police reported “apparent blood” on the walls and “suspected skull and brain matter” in the hallway near the main staircase. Critser was found with a gunshot wound, and prosecutors noted his head was almost off his body.

A shotgun was located in a separate bedroom, with women’s pants and underwear placed over the barrel, according to the affidavit. Roman told police she and Critser were the only two present at the time of the shooting.

LSD Influence and Statements

Roman admitted to taking LSD around noon on the day of the shooting, stating she felt its effects “a little.” A judge’s order explained:

“The defendant did not appear to be intoxicated, and was relaxed and comfortable, until she was informed that her fiancé was deceased. Then she became hysterical.”

She told officers that she and Critser had been talking about past trauma before the shooting and professed not to remember anything afterward. Medical tests confirmed she had been under the influence of LSD during the incident.

Investigation and Court Findings

Officers noted it was odd that Roman was outside in the snow wearing only a shirt when first contacted. Upon arrival at the hospital, police had already located Critser’s body. The court documents emphasize the LSD use and her admitted state of mind as part of the case.

Conclusion

This case underscores the dangers of substance influence during violent confrontations. Roman will serve 6–8 years in prison, reflecting the seriousness of the crime while accounting for the plea agreement.
