Nebraska Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and 79°F Highs Hit Hastings Wednesday

Hastings and a large portion of central Nebraska are expected to be affected by thunderstorms by Wednesday, July 30. These storms are expected to bring with them the possibility of downpours, lightning, and possibly even localized floods. Drivers on US-281 and other highways in the vicinity should remain vigilant for rapidly shifting conditions because there is a fifty percent possibility that storms may arrive around the middle of the day and in the afternoon.

As rains and storms continue to build up over the region, the National Weather Service forecasts that the high temperature for Wednesday will reach 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Bands of heavy rain will be pushed across Adams County and the neighboring areas as winds start to kick up from the northeast at speeds ranging from 5 to 10 miles per hour. It is possible for there to be a brief but severe rainfall, particularly under the strongest cells. It is strongly recommended that commuters and residents take additional time for their journeys, keep their headlights on, and steer clear of driving through standing water.

We anticipate that this will have an effect on the surrounding neighborhoods, schools, and outdoor plans. It is important to ensure that mobile devices are charged and that outdoor events are rescheduled as necessary, as even a brief thunderstorm can cause power outages or slow down traffic. If you are planning activities or working outside, it is important to keep an eye on local alerts for any fluctuations in the timing of storms.

On Thursday, there is a possibility of lasting showers, which will keep the skies largely cloudy and the high temperature around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The threat of storms is decreasing, but wet roads and chilly air will continue until Friday, August 1st, when there is a possibility of another round of light showers and high temperatures will reach 74 degrees Fahrenheit.

As we go closer to the weekend, the likelihood of rainy conditions on Saturday decreases, and the temperature will reach the mid-70s. As the month of August begins, you can anticipate partly sunny skies and higher temperatures this coming Sunday and Monday. However, isolated storms are still a possibility, so make sure you have your weather apps on hand.
