Omaha, Neb. – Residents across Nebraska may witness a rare celestial display tonight as the Northern Lights drift unusually far south, coinciding with the start of meteorological fall. Those in Omaha and surrounding areas are encouraged to look north after midnight, though patchy clouds and incoming weather may limit visibility.

Northern Lights Could Appear Across Nebraska

According to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, a solar storm racing toward Earth may trigger moderate geomagnetic activity, potentially making auroras visible well beyond their usual northern range. Eastern Nebraska falls within the potential viewing zone, stretching across the Midwest from Kentucky to Kansas and even as far west as Utah.

“Residents hoping to catch a glimpse of the aurora should head away from city lights for the best chance at a clear view,” officials noted.

Drivers along I-80 and other major highways are advised to remain cautious, as visibility may be reduced by patchy fog and light rain, particularly late Monday into early Tuesday.
