Police in Tennessee say a mother drowned her daughter and is now being charged with murder.
Police in Hendersonville said in a press statement that Brandi Elliott, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her child. It’s not clear if Elliot has made a plea or hired a lawyer to speak for her.
Police said that on July 13, they were called to Drakes Creek in Hendersonville, Tenn., which is a neighborhood of Nashville, because a child had drowned. According to the statement, investigators later found that Elliot, the child’s mother, was likely to blame for the death.
WTVF got court papers that say Elliot allegedly drowned her 7-year-old daughter because she said she needed some “time alone.”
The papers, which WKRN also got, also say that Elliot said she held the girl underwater until she “felt her bubbling” and then told her to be quiet. The girl drowned, and Elliot said she tried to save her life by doing CPR, but the girl was later declared dead at a nearby hospital, the news source said.
On a GoFundMe page, family and friends named the girl Piper. The fundraiser was started by a family friend of Piper’s dad, Jon Elliot. Its goal is to raise money to help pay for the funeral and other costs while he’s in the hospital for unknown reasons.
It says on the fundraiser that Piper brought her dad a bunch of coloring book pictures that she had drawn for him to hang on the wall of his hospital room. A few hours later, she was killed.
