Mississippi Man Arrested in Vicksburg Drug Bust, Faces Multiple Charges

VICKSBURG, MSKelvin Lashay Jones, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on October 8 after a major drug bust led by the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) in collaboration with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and the United States Postal Service. Jones now faces a variety of drug-related charges following the discovery of Xanax, Adderall, cocaine, and other controlled substances in his residence.

Investigation Begins with Suspicious Package

The arrest stems from an investigation that began when narcotics investigators seized a “suspicious package” at a mail distribution center. Following this, an extensive investigation, including further intelligence gathering, led law enforcement to obtain a search warrant for a residence on Buena Vista Drive in Vicksburg.

Drugs and Firearm Seized in Home Search

At the residence, investigators uncovered a substantial amount of illegal substances and paraphernalia, including:

  • 1,200 dosage units of Xanax tablets
  • 162 dosage units of Adderall
  • 3 grams of cocaine
  • 24 grams of Psilocin (psychedelic mushrooms)
  • 22 vials of THC oil
  • .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun

In addition to these drugs, $16,750 in suspected drug proceeds was also found, further supporting charges related to trafficking and distribution.

Multiple Charges Filed Against Jones

Jones has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession with intent to distribute
  • Possession of cocaine

He was subsequently arraigned in the Vicksburg Municipal Court, where his bond was set at $700,000. Authorities are continuing their investigation as they gather additional information on Jones’ possible drug activities.

The Vicksburg Police Department, in cooperation with local and federal agencies, continues to target illegal drug operations in the area. This bust is part of their ongoing efforts to disrupt the flow of narcotics into the community and hold traffickers accountable.
