Detroit, MI – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced a major drug interception this week, seizing nearly half a tonne of methamphetamine and almost half a tonne of cocaine during enforcement operations at the Detroit and Port Huron ports of entry. The drugs were destined for Canada, and federal authorities say the seizures occurred in a single day.
Detroit Seizure: Cocaine Found Hidden in Boxes and Duffel Bags
CBP officers in Detroit targeted a Canada-bound commercial vehicle for inspection on Thursday. During the search, officials discovered several bricks of white powder, later confirmed as cocaine through testing.
The cocaine had been concealed inside multiple boxes and two duffel bags, highlighting the sophisticated methods traffickers use to smuggle drugs across the border.
Port Huron Seizure: Methamphetamine Stash Discovered
On the same day, authorities in Port Huron, including CBP, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), conducted a joint inspection of another Canada-bound commercial vehicle.
With the assistance of drug detection dogs, officers found over 400 bags of methamphetamine. The meth was seized along with the vehicle, ensuring that it would not reach Canadian markets.
Total Seizures and Federal Prosecution
In total, officials reported seizing:
- 475.95 kilograms of cocaine
- 440.90 kilograms of methamphetamine
Both vehicles and their trailers were confiscated, and the drivers are facing federal prosecution for drug trafficking offenses.

CBP emphasized the operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat cross-border drug trafficking and protect public safety. “These seizures demonstrate the vigilance and effectiveness of border enforcement operations in Michigan,” a CBP spokesperson said.
