Michigan Man Pleads No-Contest in Fatal Crash That Killed Mother of Two; Likely Facing Prison

Michigan, USA – A Michigan man has entered a no-contest plea after crashing his truck into a tree, killing his passenger, 32-year-old Amanda Rogers, a mother of two. Grady Suggs III, 32, who was “super drunk” at the time of the crash, now faces the likelihood of prison time for his actions.

Crash and Fleeing the Scene

On January 19, Suggs was driving intoxicated when he crashed his truck into a tree, killing Rogers, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Suggs fled the scene on foot, leaving Rogers behind, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by responding first responders.

According to MLive.com, Suggs was later located by a K-9 unit, but fled again before he was caught and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Once at the hospital, Suggs ripped out his IV and fled once more before being arrested.

Suggs’ Arrest and Plea

Suggs was eventually arrested on January 21 and booked into jail with a $100,000 bond. Prosecutors had requested that Suggs’ bond be denied, citing his history of fleeing the scene and being a flight risk.

On Thursday, Suggs pleaded no contest to charges of operating a motor vehicle with a high alcohol content causing death and failure to stop at a personal injury accident resulting in death.

Blood Alcohol Content and Legal Consequences

Suggs’ blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.213 following the crash, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08. According to Michigan law, a BAC over 0.17 is considered “super drunk”, which carries additional penalties, including a longer prison sentence and a requirement to undergo alcohol rehabilitation.

Rogers’ Survivors and Impact

Rogers, a group home manager, is survived by her two children, parents, and several siblings, including a twin sister. Her tragic death has left a lasting impact on her family and the community.
