Miami Hurricanes Linebacker Linked to Crash That Left 3 Dead, Police Report

Police said Sunday that Adarius Hayes, a linebacker for the Miami Hurricanes, was one of the drivers in a two-car accident that killed three people and hurt at least two more.

Police say that the three people who died in the crash were all in a Kia Soul that hit Hayes’s Dodge Durango on Saturday afternoon. There are no tickets or formal charges out yet, but the investigation is still going on.

The driver of the Kia, a 78-year-old woman, died, cops said Sunday. Police say that two children, ages 10 and 4, who were both in the Kia, were also killed in the crash.

Police said that another Kia passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Hayes was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

One of the drivers of the cars did not show any signs of being impaired, according to a statement released by Largo Police on Sunday.

The accident happened in Largo, which is Hayes’ neighbourhood and is close to Tampa. The Hurricanes haven’t said anything about Hayes’ health.

In his first year at Miami, Hayes played in 12 games, mostly on special teams. When he graduated from Largo High, he was a four-star athlete. He chose Miami over Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and other schools.

On the Gulf coast of Florida, Largo is 20 miles east of Tampa and 15 miles north of St. Petersburg.
