Across the nation, Medicaid is reducing its enrollment following the conclusion of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, New Mexico stands out as administrators announce an extension of coverage for specific groups.
New Mexico has obtained federal approval to prolong coverage for seniors in long-term care and individuals with disabilities. This extension is set to last for 12 months.
Kari Armijo, the cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD), emphasized the commitment to ensuring healthcare access for vulnerable Medicaid members. The state aims to provide necessary healthcare services by securing flexibility from the federal government.
The approved extension encompasses various programs such as the Community Benefit, Developmental Disabilities Waiver, Mi Via Waiver, Supports Waiver, and the Medically Fragile Waiver, according to HSD. Eligibility criteria include individuals awaiting renewal processing since April 1, 2023, and those with an active “Level of Care” status.
HSD plans to inform affected New Mexicans through mailed notifications, eliminating the need for additional action on their part. For individuals who believe they qualify but have not received a notification, they can contact HSD at 1-800-283-4465.
