Orange County, Florida – Authorities say a man fatally shot his girlfriend’s co-worker in the middle of a hair-braiding session on Thanksgiving Day, believing the woman was being unfaithful. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Cameron Hoilette, was killed inside the woman’s apartment after attempting to calmly diffuse the situation, investigators wrote in court records. The accused gunman, 31-year-old Jon Fuller, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Incident Overview
According to an affidavit reviewed by investigators, Fuller arrived uninvited at his girlfriend’s apartment at the Summit Centre Way complex shortly before noon. The woman, who was nine months pregnant, had moved to the Orlando area two months earlier for what she believed was a job opportunity he had arranged. As the couple struggled with distance and communication, tensions escalated, and Fuller repeatedly accused her of cheating.
The victim, a co-worker from her job, had simply come by to have his hair braided when Fuller unexpectedly showed up.
What Happened Inside the Apartment
The girlfriend opened the door and reminded Fuller that she was busy and had told him not to visit. Despite this, authorities say he pushed past her into the apartment. She assumed he would sit quietly and watch, but events shifted rapidly.
Hoilette reportedly tried to de-escalate the situation, telling Fuller that “he only came to get his hair braided” and that he would leave if there was a problem. Investigators say that moments later, “without warning,” Fuller pulled out a firearm and shot Hoilette in the face at close range.
The woman ran from the apartment in fear that she might be next. Fuller followed her outside. According to police, she confronted him, insisting that Hoilette was only a colleague. Fuller appeared shocked and mumbled something she could not understand before getting into his car and leaving the scene.
Police Response and Discovery
Maitland Police responded around 12:12 p.m. and found the girlfriend outside the apartment. Fuller had already fled. Roughly 30 minutes later, officers located Hoilette deceased in a back bedroom, lying on the floor near a mattress with a gunshot wound to the face. A spent shell casing was recovered at the scene.
Fuller was taken into custody later that day and has since pleaded not guilty, according to court records reported by local media.
Growing Tensions Before the Shooting
Court documents describe a troubled relationship leading up to the violence. Fuller had told his girlfriend he would relocate to join her “soon” but had not followed through, causing significant strain. She believed he had lied about the start date of a call-center job, which left her feeling misled and frustrated. Fuller reportedly interpreted her reduced communication as a sign of infidelity.
The day before Thanksgiving, he called to say he missed her and wanted to visit. She declined, telling him she had other plans. Despite this, he drove approximately 180 miles from West Palm Beach to Orlando and appeared at her door the next morning.
What Happens Next in the Case
Fuller made his first court appearance on Friday. His next hearing has not yet been announced. The victim’s family, friends, and co-workers have not publicly commented as of the latest reports.
