Someone from New Hampshire admitted to hitting another man in the head with a metal pipe and killing him. He will spend decades in jail for this crime.
A news release from the police said that Ryan Barden, 32, was given a 37-year to life sentence in state jail on Thursday for the murder of Jared Daly, 32. Barden admitted that he killed someone in the second degree, lied about proof, stole, tampered with witnesses and informants, and disobeyed a police officer.
A reporter from WMUR, a local ABC station, said that the victim’s mother, Carol Daly, gave an emotional victim impact statement in court.
“Jared was my lifeblood.” He was my child, and I’m glad Jared’s son was at my house that night. If not, Ryan would have killed him. Ryan didn’t let Jared have a chance. “He killed him from behind like a coward,” she told the station.
WMUR says that Barden and the victim were friends. According to reports, the ex-girlfriend of Barden was an old friend of Daly’s and was living at Daly’s apartment while she tried to get away from Barden.
Attorney General John M. Formella of New Hampshire said in a statement that the sentence was a solemn end to a tragic case.
“Mr. Barden’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing show how serious his actions were in causing Jared Daly’s death and committing other crimes,” he said. “The court’s decision shows how much we care about justice and holding criminals responsible for their actions.” Our thoughts are still with the Daly family, who have lost a loved one very suddenly. Police and our defense team did a great job and I appreciate all the hard work they put into ending this case.
Josh Speicher, the assistant attorney general for New Hampshire, said Barden was waiting, killed Daly, and then stole his SUV.
“He continued to wait for the right time after Jared entered the apartment,” Speicher told WMUR. “Then he attacked Jared from behind and killed him with a big metal pipe.”
The New Hampshire Union Leader said Barden told the judge it was “the worst mistake of my life.”
On August 11, 2021, the story became public. Nashua cops checked on Daly and found him dead in the living room of his apartment at 5 Hanover Street in Nashua. He is thought to have been killed two nights before. He died from a blow to the head.
It wasn’t until the next month that Barden was caught. He was hiding in a bedroom closet in a house in Belmont, New Hampshire, which is about 60 miles north of where Daly was killed.
WMUR reported that after getting out of jail on bail, he broke into a tow yard where the victim’s car was kept and took the murder weapon with him. An accusation told The Nashua Telegraph that he also tried to tell a witness not to talk about what happened to Daly.
The obituary for Daly said that he was friendly and loving.
The death notice said, “Jared put his whole heart into everything and gave 110% in all he did.” “He loved being with family and friends and thought the world of his sons and wife.” Jared cared about God and loved Jesus.
