Man Hangs Baby Over Balcony, Threatens Mass Shooting in Apartment Full of Kids: Police

An individual is being charged of threatening to shoot the mother of his baby daughter while he was hanging his daughter over the railing of a balcony in the state of Tennessee.

An affidavit filed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office states that Duriell Williams, age 21, has been charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment with the charges. The allegations are a result of an event that occurred in Memphis at the beginning of the month of June.

On June 6, a lady went to the Memphis Police Department to say that Williams, the father of her child, had beaten her and their daughter, who was five months old, while they were visiting her at her apartment in Washington Manor, which is located off of East Belz Boulevard in the city. According to the papers filed in court, Williams approached the woman and requested that she “come outside and talk.”

Following their agreement, Williams “asked to see and hold their child,” according to the affidavit, which states that she approved. According to the allegations, he made a threat while he was doing so, saying, “You don’t think I’d throw her over the railing.”

The following day, Williams “held the infant’s feet over the second-story railing outside the apartment knowing[ly] putting the infant in imminent danger,” according to law enforcement. Despite the fact that the mother was able to remove the child from Williams’s custody and make her way back to her apartment, the supposed threat had not yet been eliminated.

The suspect is reported to have pulled out a revolver and “threatened to shoot up the apartment” if the mother did not come out of the apartment. The apartment was where several other children were living at the time. According to the affidavit, while she was “fearing what Williams may do,” she went back out and met him.

The subsequent accusation against him is that he pointed his revolver at the woman and “asked if she was ready to die.” In spite of this, the affidavit indicates that he departed because he became aware of neighbors in their neighborhood.

Williams was taken into custody at a later time and is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on a bond of $100,500. It is scheduled for him to appear in court again on August 4th.
