DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. – An American from South Carolina was killed by fireworks at a Fourth of July party on Thursday night.
If you call the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office at 10:23 p.m. and go to a neighborhood block party in Summerville, you will find a guy lying on the road with serious head injuries.
People who saw the injuries told officers that they happened because of fireworks.
Later, the doctor said that Allen Ray McGrew, 41, had set off a big fireworks on top of his head. Investigators learned that he wore a big top hat and put the fireworks on top of it before setting them off. “Massive head injuries” were caused when the device burst.
McGrew was declared dead at the scene of the crime.
A report from the sheriff’s office says the victim’s wife told police she thought he put the fireworks on his head at the block party to “show off.” His family tried to tell him to stop, but the fireworks went off, and McGrew fell.
The event is being looked into by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
