KFDA/Gray News, Amarillo, Texas – Police have charged a man with murder in relation to the death of his grandmother, who is 106 years old.
On November 26, Amarillo police officers were called to the scene of Cecilia Ferguson’s death at 106 on N.E. 14th Street.
According to the police, Cecilia Ferguson and her 35-year-old grandson, Michael Alexander Ferguson, resided in the house.
Officers claimed to have observed suspicious circumstances surrounding Cecilia Ferguson’s death when they arrived on the scene.
Michael Ferguson was then brought in for an interview when the investigation was taken over by the Amarillo Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
He was detained and taken to the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of injury to the elderly, despite police claims that he denied any role in her death.
Following additional investigation, police announced on Monday that Michael Ferguson’s charge had been raised to murder. The Potter County District Attorney’s Office filed a warrant alleging Michael was responsible for Cecilia Ferguson’s death.
Michael Ferguson is still being held at the Potter County Detention Center, according to the police.
