Man Arrested After Body Found in Dumpster During Miami Beach Wellness Check

A 40-year-old guy is in jail after a disturbing find in Miami Beach.

On Saturday night, Miami Beach police went to the Blackstone Apartments on 800 Washington Avenue.

At the flat building, cameras caught markers and police tape.

Police say that the 40-year-old’s mother flew in from New Jersey because she was worried about her son.

Christopher Bess, a public information officer for Miami Beach Police, said, “She flew from out of state to check on her son, who we think has a mental illness. Unfortunately, the outcome wasn’t good.”

Police said that the mother, Elizabeth Caruso, was at the flats with her son, Anthony. Police said they got a call on Saturday asking to check on Elizabeth’s well-being because her son-in-law hadn’t heard from her in two hours.

“The person who called to report a welfare check was actually the victim’s son-in-law. He called the police because he hadn’t heard from his mother-in-law in two hours,” Bess explained.

When police arrived at the apartment, they saw blood on the front door of unit 708 that led to a trash chute. After following the marks, they were able to open the chute and find the body of a woman inside.

“We did find a female victim inside a trash can, and an investigation showed that there was a bloody trail from that apartment unit to the trash chute and then down the trash chute into the trash can,” Bess said.

Officers tried to get in touch with Anthony at his apartment but were unable to do so. This led to an 8-hour standoff involving the Miami Beach Police SWAT team and a police K-9.

“After an hour-long standoff, or about eight hours, our SWAT team was able to get in without any more problems,” Bess said.

The arrest report says that a police K-9 went into Anthony’s flat and bit his right arm while officers tried to get him to comply.

For hours, the area outside the apartment block was closed off while cops talked with Anthony.

Gladys, who lives on the eighth floor, said she heard the noise when she woke up.

“The street and the area around the building were both shut down.” No one could walk by or stand here. “There were a lot of police,” she said. “A woman was found dead!”

A lot of people, including Gladys, say they didn’t know the mother and son, but she is sad, too.

She said, “I can’t believe that.”

Antony was checked out at Mount Sinai Medical Centre and then taken to be questioned by the Miami Beach Police Criminal Investigation Division. He was then taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre, where he is being held on a charge of second-degree murder.

Found Anthony’s old mugshot from when he was caught on several charges, such as aggravated assault with a weapon and battery on a police officer.
