Man Allegedly Hit and Killed Cyclist, Went Home to Tell Family—now He and His Father Are Arrested

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla – A South Florida father and son have been charged in a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Pedro Vasallo II, 24, has been accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, while his father, Pedro Vasallo, 61, has been charged with accessory after the fact in the first degree.

This is about the death of 58-year-old Kenneth Solovay, who police say was struck and died at 6 a.m. on December 14.

He was riding his bike near the 2000 block of Davie Boulevard when Vasallo II allegedly crashed into him while driving a 2019 Mercedes.

A seven-page arrest warrant detailed a timetable that police pieced together from surveillance evidence.

According to the warrant, officers were able to use security cameras in the area to identify a license plate number and trace it back to a Plantation address.

Investigators identified the vehicle with the license plate number and found damage to the front right corner of the hood and windshield, indicating a collision with a bicyclist.

Investigators claim the 24-year-old, who worked at Sway Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale, was shown on surveillance cameras exiting a parking garage near the nightclub and headed towards the crash site.

A search request also found a video discussion in which a lady named Donna Compagniotte discussed the incident, claiming Vasallo II hit a bicyclist before returning home.

In a sworn declaration, Compagniotte revealed that Vasallo II came home and informed her that he had been involved in a crash.

Both males were detained and taken into custody on Tuesday.

Vasallo II was given a $70,000 bond, but his father has yet to appear in front of a judge.
