A man from Massachusetts was charged with an attack to rape a child after he tried to rape a young child behind the bathrooms in a park while soccer games for kids were going on.
Yarmouth police say that around 8 p.m. Tuesday, a man later identified as Ryan Evans, 27, lured a 5-year-old child behind the restrooms at Cape Cod’s Peter Homer Park and “attempted to sexually assault” the child.
Police say the five-year-old got away from the attack by yelling.
Authorities say that the suspect left the area on an electric motorbike after the child’s screams scared him away. Yarmouth Fire/Rescue also came to check on the child to see if they were hurt.
The police were sent to the scene to look for Evans. When that didn’t work, police launched an “extensive search,” looking for the suspect in nearby parks, shops, neighborhoods, and on the bike path.
Around 7 p.m., Evans’ car was stopped by police, who then arrested him. He was charged with assault to rape a child, taking a child, and assault and battery on a child under 14 in a sexual way.
The man, who is 27 years old, will be charged in Barnstable District Court on Thursday.
Evans has had problems with the cops before. In 2021, he was charged with assault with the intent to rape a child, burglary, and assault without a weapon, assault and abuse, property damage, and theft. It is not clear what is happening with those cases right now.
