Man, 23, Dies After Being Struck by Train Near North Carver Avenue in Midland

Midland, Texas — A 23-year-old man was killed Sunday evening after being struck by a train near North Carver Avenue, according to the Midland Police Department.

What happened

Police said officers were dispatched at about 5:44 p.m. to a report of a railroad–pedestrian accident near the 400 block of North Carver Avenue. Authorities were alerted after the Union Pacific Railroad reported that one of its trains had struck a pedestrian just north of the tracks.

Discovery of the victim

While searching the surrounding area, officers located the victim north of the tracks near the 700 block of East Front Street. The man was found lying on the ground and was transported by emergency medical services to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Victim identified

Police later identified the victim as Ryan Livingston, 23.

Investigation details

According to investigators, evidence indicates the victim was using his cellphone while in close proximity to the railroad tracks at the time of the incident. Police said he was struck by an eastbound Union Pacific train at the location.

Ongoing investigation

Officials confirmed that next of kin has been notified. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details were released Sunday night.
