Louisiana Man Sentenced to Life After Beating Girlfriend to Death and Failing to Seek Help

Caddo Parish, Louisiana – A northern Louisiana man has been sentenced to life in prison after brutally beating his girlfriend, leaving her with fatal brain injuries, and remaining with her unconscious body for hours without calling for medical help.

Life Sentence Handed Down in Caddo Parish Murder Case

Brandon Lindsey, 36, was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the murder of 23-year-old Heaven Weed, the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office confirmed. The sentence includes no eligibility for parole or suspension, reflecting the severity of the crime and the circumstances surrounding Weed’s death.

Prosecutors detailed a prolonged and violent assault that left the young woman with catastrophic injuries and no chance of survival.

Night Out Turned Deadly

On March 1, 2023, Weed and Lindsey attended a nightclub in Caddo Parish, an area in northwest Louisiana bordering Texas. Later that night, they returned to Weed’s home, where Lindsey had been staying for approximately one month.

Investigators believe that sometime after returning home, Lindsey violently assaulted Weed, inflicting what authorities later described as extensive injuries across her body.

Unconscious for Hours Without Help

Despite the severity of the attack, Lindsey did not seek medical assistance. According to authorities, Lindsey went to work the following morning and returned to Weed’s home around 11:45 a.m. on March 2, 2023.

GPS and phone data presented during the investigation showed that Lindsey remained inside the residence for several hours. Weed’s mother arrived around 8 p.m., nearly 18 hours after the assault, and found her daughter unconscious and unresponsive.

As he left the home, Lindsey reportedly told her mother, “she’s messed up.”

Weed was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital in Shreveport, but the delay proved devastating.

Severe Injuries Documented by Medical Staff

Medical professionals documented horrific injuries, including swelling of the brain, fractured ribs, and bruising and lacerations covering her body.

Emergency responders noted the extent of her condition, stating that “she was so stiff it took several emergency personnel to move her from the car to the treatment area.”

After approximately 10 days in the hospital, Weed died from a closed-head traumatic brain injury. In a final act of generosity, her organs were donated, helping save other lives.

Evidence of Cleanup Attempt Found

When law enforcement officers searched the home, they detected a strong smell of bleach and cleaning products, including Clorox wipes and Fabuloso.

Police documented blood spatter in multiple areas of the house, including the living room, kitchen, and pantry, noting several spots where blood appeared to have been wiped away.

Investigators also recovered items from the washing machine, including a mattress topper, pillow, and towel, all containing Weed’s blood. Authorities stated that Lindsey’s clothing worn at the nightclub also tested positive for the victim’s blood.

Pattern of Abuse Revealed at Trial

During the trial, a former girlfriend of Lindsey testified about years of abuse she suffered at his hands. She described injuries including black eyes, fractured ribs, and a broken jaw.

According to prosecutors, “she recounted instances where he dragged her by her hair, kicked her in the head and struck her with his fist in her face.” She also testified that the abuse caused seizures and required dental implants due to extensive damage.

Her testimony highlighted a documented cycle of domestic violence, reinforcing prosecutors’ argument that Lindsey posed an ongoing danger.

Remembering Heaven Weed

In her obituary, Heaven Weed was remembered as having “an adventurous soul” who “passionately lived her life to the fullest.” She was the first in her immediate family to graduate college and was known for bringing joy to her workplace at Bally’s Casino in Shreveport.

“She was a selfless person who shared her love for life and others with everyone she met,” the obituary stated.

A Case That Highlights the Cost of Silence

Prosecutors emphasized that the case underscores the deadly consequences of domestic violence and the importance of seeking immediate help during medical emergencies.
