Louisville, KY – A Kentucky woman was arrested this week after allegedly attempting to kill her younger sister by setting her bed on fire while she slept, authorities said. The fire, which occurred in June, did not result in injuries, but police say the incident was premeditated and accompanied by incriminating text messages.
Arrest and Charges
Addison Brown, 22, was taken into custody by Louisville police after an investigation revealed her role in the fire. She faces attempted murder, arson, and wanton endangerment charges. Brown made her first court appearance shortly after her arrest and is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 22.
Details of the Incident
According to an arrest and search warrant, the incident occurred on June 1 when Brown allegedly set a mattress on fire while her younger sister was sleeping. The sister “woke up with flames next to her” but quickly extinguished the fire using a pillow. First responders arrived to find the blaze already out.
Brown reportedly fled the scene immediately after the fire. Three other individuals were in the home at the time, though their relationships to Brown and her sister were not specified in the warrant.
Evidence of Premeditation
Police say that in the aftermath of the fire, Brown sent text messages to multiple people, including her sister, in which she admitted to intentionally setting the fire in an attempt to kill her sibling. Investigators also found that the fire caused over $500 in damages to the home.
Law Enforcement Statement
Authorities confirmed that Brown’s arrest followed a detailed investigation by arson investigators and local police. While no injuries occurred, officials emphasized the danger and recklessness of the act.
Next Step
Brown is currently booked into the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections, with her arraignment set for Sept. 22. Investigators continue to review the incident and any additional evidence related to the case.
