Kentucky Couple Indicted for Death of 10-Year-Old Jayden Spicer After Alleged Overdose

Jackson, KYFelicia Gross, 33, and her husband, Joshua Gross, have been indicted in connection with the death of their 10-year-old son, Jayden Spicer, whose remains were discovered in a shallow grave earlier this week. The couple now faces multiple charges, including murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.

Alleged Overdose Leads to Boy’s Death

Carteret County Sheriff’s Office reports that Felicia Gross confessed to administering sleeping medication to Jayden, which she claimed caused a medical emergency that led to his death. During a Mirandized interview, Gross allegedly admitted that she believed her son had passed away from the overdose, and she then took steps to cover up the crime.

“She confessed to providing Jayden a type of sleeping medication,” the arrest citation reads.

The Discovery of Jayden’s Body

Jayden was reported missing on August 6, 2024, from their home in Jackson, approximately 100 miles southeast of Lexington. Police launched a search and rescue operation, but the investigation soon uncovered a ruse. Less than a week later, Jayden’s body was discovered buried in a plastic tote in a wooded area on Canoe Road, about 19 miles southwest of the family home.

The Kentucky State Police confirmed that the discovery was made thanks to Gross’s confession, which led authorities to the grave.

Charges and Allegations Against the Couple

Felicia Gross is facing charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and falsely reporting an incident. Her husband, Joshua Gross, is charged with complicity to murder and complicity to tampering with evidence. Both are currently held at Three Forks Regional Jail on $1 million bonds.

Family’s Reaction and Public Outcry

Jayden’s aunts publicly expressed their disbelief during the search, stating that Jayden was a sweet, loving boy who would not have gone into the woods alone. They questioned the official narrative, believing something wasn’t right about his disappearance.

“He is very sweet, loving. He is very hyperactive. He likes to be on the go 24/7,” said one aunt.

Investigation and Autopsy Pending

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the precise cause of Jayden’s death. As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the tragic loss of a young boy who was taken too soon.
