Kansas Man Arrested for Murder of Pregnant Girlfriend After PS5 Dispute

Sedgwick County, KS – A tragic domestic incident in Sedgwick County has left a 20-year-old woman dead and her newborn critically injured after a violent shooting at a family home. Police have arrested Matthew Criscenzo, also 20, who has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Fatal Shooting Over Relationship Dispute

Police say the incident occurred on May 25, 2025, at the home of Criscenzo’s father in the 700 block of South Laura Avenue, Wichita. Authorities allege that Criscenzo shot his pregnant girlfriend, Naomi Oglesby, also 20, following an argument in which she reportedly turned off his PS5 controller and told him she was leaving.

The shooting left Oglesby dead, and she was 37 weeks pregnant at the time. Medical staff performed an emergency C-section to deliver the baby, who survived but is facing serious complications, including severe brain trauma due to lack of oxygen.

Arrest and Statements to Police

According to court documents, when officers arrived, Criscenzo made multiple spontaneous statements expressing remorse and disbelief.

“I can’t believe I did this, just f—ing kill me,” Criscenzo allegedly told officers.
“I didn’t want to, I didn’t mean to, I just didn’t want her to go and I thought she was gonna leave me.”
“She loved me and I killed her.”

While in the patrol car and during the interview room session, he reportedly said,

“This is not real … I forced her to go and then I changed my mind and shot her on accident … Why did I even have my finger on the trigger?”

Crime Scene Details

Investigators found several key pieces of evidence at the home:

  • A spent .40 caliber cartridge casing in the living room
  • Two live .40 caliber rounds
  • An extended firearm magazine on the couch
  • Three gun cases in Criscenzo’s bedroom

Police allege that a prior domestic incident occurred about a week before the shooting, during which Criscenzo was reportedly drunk and high, bit Oglesby’s hand, and threatened to kill her with a firearm.

Baby’s Condition and Family Response

Oglesby’s newborn, named Zy’nia, survived delivery but is being monitored in critical condition. The baby suffered seizures and required intubation, with doctors warning of potential long-term complications.

A GoFundMe page launched for the child describes Oglesby as a “beautiful young soul who was taken too soon,” noting that her baby may not survive or have a quality of life due to the trauma sustained during the incident.

Court Proceedings

Criscenzo has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and remains in custody. He also faces attempted murder and aggravated battery charges, according to Sedgwick County court records. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 8, 2025.

Law Enforcement Comments

Authorities continue to investigate the case as a domestic violence-related homicide. Police confirmed that Criscenzo’s father discovered the shooting after hearing a gunshot while baking a cheesecake in the kitchen, and promptly called 911 after finding Oglesby injured.
