Kansas City, MO — After a warm start to the week, residents across the metro could wake up to wet roads Tuesday morning as a round of late-night thunderstorms sweeps through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) says this system will bring a noticeable shift toward cooler, drier fall conditions by midweek.
Late-Night Storms Expected Monday
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop after 4 p.m. Monday, with the heaviest rain between midnight and sunrise Tuesday.
“Rainfall amounts may reach up to a quarter inch in some neighborhoods, with brief downpours and lightning possible,” the NWS said in its latest forecast discussion.
Commuters should plan for wet pavement and reduced visibility during the early Tuesday morning rush, particularly along I-70 and I-35, where brief rainfall and ponding may slow traffic.
Cooler Air Moves In by Midweek
By Tuesday afternoon, showers should taper off as north winds strengthen, ushering in cooler, drier air behind the front. Temperatures will drop sharply from the mid-80s Monday to the upper 60s and low 70s by Wednesday.
“We’ll feel a real taste of fall by midweek,” forecasters said, noting that overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-50s across much of the metro.
The combination of sunshine and lower humidity will make Wednesday through Friday ideal for outdoor plans, marking a welcome change after several humid days.
Ideal Fall Weekend Ahead
Skies will remain mostly sunny through the weekend, with little chance of rain until late Sunday or early next week. Meteorologists expect a brief warm-up toward the end of the week, but overall conditions will stay pleasant.
Residents can look forward to comfortable afternoons, crisp mornings, and calm winds — perfect for fall festivals, outdoor dining, and evening walks.
