Iowa–Illinois Weather Alert: Light Snow Possible Near Davenport Through Wednesday

Davenport, Iowa – Residents across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois can expect occasional rounds of light snow and flurries through Wednesday as weak clipper systems move through the region, according to forecasters.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service Quad Cities say several weak disturbances arriving from the northwest will bring intermittent snowfall today through midweek. Total accumulation is expected to remain under 1 inch, with snow falling lightly and unevenly across the area.

What to Expect Through Wednesday

Forecast guidance indicates the highest chances for light snow will be northeast of the Quad Cities, extending toward Dubuque, Clinton, and Freeport. Areas farther southwest, including parts of the Davenport metro, may see only occasional flurries rather than steady snowfall.

Probability models show 20 to 60 percent chances of light snow depending on location and timing. While accumulations are expected to stay minimal, brief reductions in visibility and slick spots on untreated roads are possible during active periods.

Timing of the Snow Chances

Forecasters note that the first round of snow is expected to arrive late this morning and move out by this evening. A second weak system could bring another round of light snow or flurries on New Year’s Eve, though impacts are expected to remain limited.

Despite multiple chances for snow, officials emphasize that no significant winter weather impacts are anticipated at this time.

Temperature Outlook

Temperatures will remain seasonable for late December throughout the period. Daytime highs are expected to range from the upper 20s to mid-30s today and Wednesday, while overnight lows fall into the 20s. These colder nighttime temperatures could allow light snow to briefly accumulate on colder surfaces such as bridges and sidewalks.

Travel and Safety Considerations

Drivers are urged to use caution during periods of light snow, especially during morning and evening commute hours. Even small amounts of snowfall can create slick conditions on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.

Those with New Year’s Eve travel plans should continue to monitor forecast updates, but widespread delays or disruptions are not expected based on current projections.

Looking Ahead to the New Year

Dry and quieter weather is forecast to return for New Year’s Day and Friday, with partly cloudy skies and highs ranging from the mid-20s to mid-30s. This should allow the region to begin 2026 with calmer winter conditions.

Residents can stay informed by following official updates from the National Weather Service and checking local forecasts as conditions evolve.
