MERRICK, New York — Nassau County Police say that someone is responsible for the disturbance at a Planet Fitness on Long Island over the weekend, which sent two cops to the hospital.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to the Merrick gym to report a disturbance. When they arrived, 27-year-old Getho Brevette had already left the gym and was in a car accident. Police said Brevette went back to Planet Fitness and threw something at the officers who were coming up behind him.
At about 8 p.m., Brevette tried to take a police officer’s gun and then took the officer’s body camera but broke it on the ground. According to the police, Brevette “became violent and combative while resisting arrest.”
Officials say that the cops and the Brevette were taken to nearby hospitals to get medical care for their injuries.
Brevette was accused of these things:
Attack in the second degree on two counts
The fourth level of grand theft
The second level of theft
The third level of criminal mischief
Not cooperating with police
Getting in the way of government management in the second-degree
The third degree of sexual abuse
Touching with force
Leaving the scene of a car crash
PIX11 News was told by cops that Brevette was freed earlier in the day after being charged with robbing the First Baptist Church of Westbury on Saturday.
