Indianapolis, IN – An Indianapolis man is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly fatally shooting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute last week.
Fatal Shooting Incident
Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 10100 block of John Jay Drive at 3:15 a.m. on September 26. Inside the apartment, officers found 19-year-old LaNya Anderson suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Tyairz Glover was arrested shortly after the shooting. Witnesses reported that Glover and Anderson had engaged in an argument prior to the gunshot. Court documents indicate that Glover’s brother texted their mother, suggesting Glover had shot Anderson in the head. A witness inside the apartment also reported that Glover entered the room holding his 3-year-old child, who was covered in blood.
Conflicting Accounts
According to statements from Glover’s brother, Anderson allegedly reached for a gun during the argument, at which point Glover allegedly threatened to shoot her. After the shooting, Glover reportedly told his brother that Anderson had shot herself during a struggle.
Glover told investigators that the argument revolved around a female, and that Anderson grabbed his gun and pulled the trigger while holding their child. He provided conflicting details about where he left the weapons afterward.
Evidence From Autopsy
The autopsy revealed multiple injuries to Anderson’s head, including lacerations and bruising on her lips, consistent with trauma. Investigators say Glover admitted to punching and pistol-whipping Anderson during the dispute. He maintained that she had shot herself while holding their child.
Additional Evidence
Detectives obtained a voicemail from a neighbor describing Anderson’s struggle to breathe after the shooting. They also reviewed a FaceTime call between Anderson and her mother, which allegedly captured part of the argument, including Glover punching Anderson. After the call ended abruptly, Anderson’s mother reported hearing a gunshot.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Glover was charged with murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun by a convicted felon. He made his initial court appearance on October 3, and a jury trial is scheduled for December 1, 2025.
