Indianapolis Man Arrested in Chicago for Death of 2-Year-Old Girl

Chicago, IL – A 23-year-old Indianapolis man has been arrested in Chicago in connection to the death of his 2-year-old daughter, authorities announced Friday. Leon’ta Anderson faces charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Death of 2-Year-Old Harmoney Anderson

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service and Chicago Police Department, tracked Anderson to Chicago after he allegedly fled Indianapolis following the fatal incident. The case stems from the tragic death of Harmoney Anderson, who was brought to Methodist Hospital on July 11 with gunshot-related injuries. She was later pronounced dead.

Investigation and Seizure of Firearms

Detectives determined that the incident occurred at a residence on Ralston Avenue in Indianapolis. After executing search warrants, police seized multiple firearms from the home. Two individuals were initially detained at the hospital but were released after further consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Arrest and Extradition

On August 20, a warrant was issued for Anderson’s arrest. Authorities believe Anderson fled Indianapolis for Chicago, where he was tracked down and arrested without incident on August 28. Anderson will be extradited back to Indianapolis to face charges in the case.

“An arrest is not a conviction. Anderson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law,” police emphasized.

Conclusion

The case has brought attention to the issue of neglect and violence against young children, with authorities continuing to press for justice for Harmoney Anderson. As the investigation progresses, Anderson’s legal proceedings will unfold in the coming weeks.
