SPRINGFIELD, IL – A strong cold front is sweeping through Illinois today, bringing a sharp fall chill to much of the state. According to the US National Weather Service for Central Illinois, temperatures will remain in the 70s south of I-70, but will dip into the 60s north of the interstate as the cold front moves through.
Cooler Weather for the Week Ahead
As the cold front pushes through, cooler temperatures are expected to dominate much of central Illinois over the next few days. Daytime highs on Wednesday and Thursday will struggle to reach the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, with overnight lows expected to drop into the upper 30s to low 40s, particularly in east-central Illinois.
Forecasters are advising that the fall chill will feel significant, especially during the evening and early morning hours. “It will definitely feel like fall for a few days,” said the National Weather Service in its latest update.
